Etsy sellers sold a record amount of goods on Cyber Monday (November 28), up 80% over last year, and the company says it's on track to meet that number again, expecting more days to "top the charts" before the end of the year.

The rate of growth in the past year significantly exceeded the rate from 2009 to 2010. The number of shops with sales on Cyber Monday increased by 61 percent compared to last year, and average sales per shop increased 11 percent. Over 15 million visitors came to the site between Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Over Thanksgiving weekend, millions of people visited Etsy shops via mobile devices, almost 350 percent higher than last year's traffic, and that number continues to climb.

Etsy CEO Chad Dickerson talked about the company's vision of commerce, writing on the Etsy blog, "Many online shopping venues focus purely on price and convenience. Instead, Etsy focuses on one-to-one exchanges. We connect individuals around the world to creative, independent business owners who provide an array of unique, one-of-a-kind goods." Dickerson took over the top role in July after founder Rob Kalin stepped down.
