It will initially send thank you emails to a portion of new customers starting this week. The email will invite them to connect with Etsy via Facebook and Twitter and will tell them about some shopping newsletters, and will also suggest other items they might like based on what they've previously purchased. Etsy will also include items and shopping features in existing emails such as the ones it sends for order confirmation and "Welcome to Etsy" messages. Etsy told sellers, "As an Etsy shop owner, what does this mean to you? It means that over 400,000 products a week will be promoted to shoppers through these emails. It means deeper connections between new shoppers and the marketplace. In short, we hope it will mean the beginning of a long-lasting connection between new buyers and Etsy. And that's awesome." |

Etsy will begin sending thank you emails to first-time buyers to encourage them to connect with them socially. Etsy expects to send the thank you emails to hundreds of thousands of people during the holidays and said it wants to ensure that new members continue to shop and become active members of the community for years to come.
