Etsy July Sales up 71% from Last Year to $40 Million

July was a transitional month for online marketplace Etsy as its Chief Technology Officer Chad Dickerson replaced founder Rob Kalin as CEO. But the gross merchandise sales on the site remained fairly steady compared to recent months.

Year-over-year growth rate for dollar sales was 73% in April, 75% in May, and 74% in June. For the month of July, sales grew 71% year-over-year.

Etsy sellers sold $40.7 million in goods in July; that was 5.9% higher than June's $38.4 million. Unit sales grew 55% year-over-year to 2.04 million, which were 6.4% higher than the previous month, and sellers listed 1.87 million new items, which was down 5.9% year-over-year.

There were 418,974 new members on Etsy in July, and traffic was up 45% as page views rose to 1.065 billion.
