Etsy launched a feature on Tuesday that allows users to find out if people in their email address books also belong to Etsy and help them connect using its latest social networking features. In the blog post announcing the new feature, Etsy asked users, "Did you know that your coworker and sister-in-law are shopping and favoriting just around the corner from your favorite Etsy shop? It's time to rendezvous!"

The "Find Your Friend" feature, announced last month, was received with some controversy due to privacy concerns from people who did not want family, current and former friends and colleagues to know they were registered on Etsy. (The Etsy Bitch blog summed up some of the concerns in this post.)

Etsy users with a Google Gmail, Yahoo Mail or AOL Mail account can use the new "Find Your Friends" feature to see who they know on Etsy, and more services will be supported in the future.
