Former eBay CEO Meg Whitman, who lost her bid to become governor of California in the fall, will join HP's Board of Directors. The original HP board came under fire for the way it handled a scandal involving its former CEO, and four board members are stepping down to be replaced by five new board members.

The appointments bring the total number of board members to 17 until HP's next Annual Meeting of Stockholders in March, at which time the size of the board is expected to be reduced to 13 members.

Marc Andreessen, co-founder and a general partner of Andreessen Horowitz, is a current director who will stand for re-election; he also sits on the eBay board.

Whitman previously sat on the boards of eBay, the eBay Foundation, Procter & Gamble, DreamWorks SKG and Goldman Sachs.
