Payvment Invites Etsy Sellers to Sell on Facebook

Payvment released a new API that enables retailers to import inventory to its Facebook shopping platform. The first application of the new Payvment API is an importer that allows Etsy users to import their listings into Payvment's Facebook shopping platform.

Etsy sellers can already list their items on Facebook by creating a "My Etsy" tab on their Facebook; when visitors click an item, it takes them to the seller's Etsy shop. Payvment is different - it creates a "Shop Now" tab on the seller's Facebook that allows a purchase to be made using Payvment's free PayPal-powered shopping cart - without leaving Facebook.

Payvment enables sellers to offer Facebook Fan discounts, which it says provides a powerful way for retailers to build a fan club and increase loyalty and sales. If a user "likes" a seller's Fan page, they can receive an immediate discount built into the Payvment shopping cart.

A Payvment spokesperson said the company started with Etsy because that was the number one request from its users. But with the API, developers could create their own exporter for another marketplace, such as eBay, for example.

Etsy sellers discussed the news on the discussion boards.
