eBay has rolled out the Top Rated Seller (TRS) program that it had announced as part of Seller Release 2. The TRS program is designed both to motivate sellers to offer excellent customer service, and also to allow buyers to easily identify sellers who do so. The program is not without controversy, especially as sellers began seeing the implementation this week. Top concerns are whether eBay has made the bar too high to qualify, and whether shoppers will be fearful of buying from sellers without the TRS badge.
A purple box in search results draws attention to an ability to filter out non-TRS sellers, a feature that has sellers objecting. Said one seller, "I never thought a Top Rated Seller being advantaged in search meant there would be a filter to eliminate everyone else." eBay also rolled out a new seller dashboard.
