According to the announcement, while the vast majority of eBay users are using the new search engine, 90 percent of buyers and sellers had been able to opt out of using it. eBay also said it would expand its practice of using product details (formerly known as "pre-filled item information") in listings and said using them is one of the best ways to boost exposure in the new search. eBay will retire its old search technology in April 2009, it told users on Thursday. Last year it introduced new search technology designed to make it faster and easier for shoppers to find what they were looking for, including an auto-complete feature that "anticipates" what you're typing in the search box.
