eBay is giving sellers a reprieve on its new policy requiring that they specify their return policy and handling time in all of their listings. Previously the mandatory requirement was to take effect in late October, but the company announced on Tuesday sellers would have until after the holiday season (early 2009) to add the specifications.

In explaining the delay, eBay said, "given the breadth of changes we're asking sellers to make to their listings this year, we're giving sellers a reprieve on these two items until after the holiday season." It also said it would give sellers at least 30 days notice before it would begin enforcement.

eBay also used the opportunity to answer two common questions it was hearing about the Return Policy requirements, "Do I have to accept returns?" and "If I specified Returns Accepted before the new fields were added, do I need to revise my listings again?"
