Finalists Announced in Web Design Challenge, Voting Now Open
By Julia Wilkinson
The EcommerceBytes Web Design Challenge received many great entries, but we've narrowed it down to the five finalists. Now it's time for you, the readers, to vote for who deserves and needs the free web site front-page makeover the most!
Here's how the EcommerceBytes Website Design Challenge works: Merchants submitted their site for consideration, and readers now vote to determine which of the five finalists will participate in the challenge. After the three designers are put through their paces and develop a mockup of the homepage, you'll get to decide which redesign is the best.
The following three experts will create mockups of a new design along with an explanation of what the redesign accomplishes, and we'll publish the final three designs along with the "reveal":
- Kevin Richards, founder and CEO of Ventura Web Design
- Peter McNally, Senior Usability Consultant at Bentley University
- Andy Carlson, Web Graphic Genius at Redhead Labs
With this being the first ever EcommerceBytes Web Design Challenge, I wasn't sure what to expect, but the response from readers was overwhelming. Sellers put an impressive amount of thought into their responses - they were able to pinpoint both their sites' strengths and weaknesses, and they have a strong sense of what they want in a homepage redesign. Thanks to everyone who submitted their website!
The types of products represented by the applicants ranged all over the board in seemingly every product category. The majority of the applicants were small merchants - finalists are represented by three merchants who do under $50,000/year in annual revenue, and two do over $100,000 in annual revenue. Almost every ecommerce hosting site and platform was represented in the submissions as well. Merchants shared details about their sites in the hopes of becoming the final website in the design challenge, and now it's time for readers to vote. Without further ado, here are the five finalists.
Finalist #1: AmazingKeys.com
Finalist #2: Blue Moose Coffee
Finalist #3: Glamoursurf
Finalist #4: Karen's Artistic Touches
Finalist #5: Practical Sports & Outdoors
Now it's time for you to do your part in the contest: vote for which website you think should win on Survey Monkey! Once voting has ended, we'll present the three designers with the finalist and they'll get busy with their redesign, presented in a future issue of EcommerceBytes.
