PayPal President One of Three eBay Execs to Receive Honors

PayPal President David Marcus was honored in the Silicon Valley Business Journal's 40 under 40 along with eBay executives Sri Shivananda and Chris Plasser of its RedLaser unit. The annual 40 under 40 list recognizes Silicon Valley stars under the age of 40. Other ecommerce and social networking executives honored by the publication this year included:

• Bobby Beaver and Jeff Beaver, co-founders of Zazzle;
• Jocelyn Goldfein, Director of engineering of Facebook;
• Michael Fertik, CEO and founder of Reputation.com;
• Cyriac Roeding, CEO and co-founder of Shopkick Inc.

Of Sri Shivananda, Vice President, Platform, Infrastructure & Engineering Systems, eBay Inc., the publication said, "Supporting new technologies like mobile for the world's largest e-commerce site is no small task, especially considering that mobile didn't even exist that many years ago." It went on to say, "Shivananda leads a team of 600 that runs the internal infrastructure of eBay Inc. and PayPal. He worked his way from software engineer to vice president of platform and infrastructure and now oversees all the technology platform from datacenters to middleware."

Chris Plasser, Head of Product at RedLaser, told the Silicon Valley Business Journal his next big career goal was, "Finding better ways for consumers to shop on the go anytime, anywhere with mobile."

David Marcus, who took on the role of president at eBay's payment unit after Scott Thompson left to go to Yahoo, said his next big career goal was to make PayPal an every day essential product for hundreds of millions of consumers around the world. When asked about his favorite website, he said, "I feel like talking about apps, and not websites, so Evernote, Fab, Facebook, Path, Uber, Twitter, Waze."

Last year, the 40 Under 40 list included eBay Inc.'s Dane Glasgow, Vice President of Global Product Management for eBay Marketplaces; and Rob Veres, General Manager of RedLaser and Senior Director of eBay Mobile.
