PayPal Sees 173 Percent Increase in Black Friday Mobile Shoppers

PayPal saw a 173% percent increase in the number of customers shopping through mobile on Black Friday 2012 compared to last year, and saw a 193% percent increase in mobile payment volume, compared to last year.

Claudia Lombana, PayPal's Shopping Specialist, told the Today Show the holiday shopping season actually kicked off on September 30th, and expects the busiest shopping period on Cyber Monday to be between noon and 1 pm. Electronics, jewelry and apparel are generally the top categories on Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

The busiest mobile shopping hour on Black Friday was between 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm PST, and shoppers making the most mobile purchases through PayPal on Black Friday came from Houston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami and New York.

A spokesperson for PayPal declined to provide overall sales data for Black Friday, saying it was only providing mobile data publicly this year.
