Bonanza Overhauls Shopping Cart, Integrates with PayPal Express Checkout

Bonanza is working on a redesign and overhaul of its shopping cart and checkout functionality, and said it was integrating with PayPal Express Checkout. In a blog post, Chief Product Officer Alex Berg wrote that the online marketplace has three goals: to reduce errors and confusion; to optimize the overall user experience; and to improve its ability to remarket to previous customers.

Bonanza allows sellers to offer PayPal and Google Checkout, and it is now using PayPal Express Checkout so that the final transaction steps of the checkout process take place on Bonanza.com and not on PayPal. Berg said this allows Bonanza to create user accounts for everyone who checks out, helping it build a repeat customer base more effectively. Merchants who have a "Personal" PayPal account will eventually need to change their account type to either Premium or Business.

Bonanza is also making a change to the way inventory displays after they've been purchased by shoppers intending to pay with Echecks and money orders. Bonanza will disable "buy it now" for any item that is awaiting payment info from an Echeck or Money Order. "This lets you continue to list the item, but ensures that no one buys it twice as it will become an invoiced order awaiting approval. It also sets buyer expectations more effectively."

Berg said the cart redesign is undergoing testing and is at least one week away.
