eBay announced the availability of its first application for Windows Phone 7 in conjunction with Microsoft's debut of the devices on October 11th. The eBay app for Windows Phone 7 allows users to quickly search, bid, buy and check their eBay buying and selling activity. The app leverages Microsoft's panoramic user interface and takes advantage of Windows Phone 7's push notification technology so users can receive real-time notifications on best offer and bidding activity, and items ending soonest.

eBay described the searching process on the device as follows: "Start to type what you are looking for and the applications auto complete function will make suggestions of popular searches, once you find what you need hit the enter button and you can scroll through hi-res images and quick description of the results instantly. You can further refine your search from here by selecting auctions only, buy-it-now listings, or use the price slider to define your price parameters."

The eBay app will be available for free download to Microsoft Windows Phone 7 users worldwide, and listings will be available in eight countries: Australia, Canada, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, United Kingdom and United States.

Microsoft launched Windows Phone 7 this morning, it will make its debut in some European markets on Oct. 21 and in time for the holidays in the U.S.

eBay expects to generate $1.5 billion in GMV through mobile commerce in 2010, and expects over five million users to be regularly using its PayPal payment service on mobile devices by the end of 2010. eBay's iPhone application has been downloaded over 10 million times and allows users to fully browse and buy listings on eBay without leaving the application. The company also offers an eBay for iPad application and a suite of mobile apps, including Selling, Classifieds, StubHub, and eBay applications for Android and BlackBerry.
