Some sellers received an email from PayPal on Tuesday containing the following message: "Your buyers can pay you with a credit card on eBay - without creating a PayPal account." A link to "Learn More" took them to a page that explained in part, "When a buyer enters checkout, a secure credit card checkout will automatically appear if eBay detects that the buyer doesn't already have a PayPal account or if they can't remember their password."

The page explained, "This information will be helpful to you in explaining the process to your new buyers who may not have a PayPal account or who may have forgotten their password."

PayPal spokesperson Charlotte Hill said that guest checkout on eBay was not new, but that the company had recently done some marketing to try and better explain the process to customers.
