Amazon Japan Launches Marketplace, Amazon UK Launches Holiday Promotion
By Ina Steiner
Amazon's Japanese site launched a new service on Wednesday, the Amazon Marketplace (http://www.amazon.co.jp/marketplace). Like the U.S. site, Japan's Amazon Marketplace provides a platform that allows third parties to buy and sell new, used and collectible items on the same page as Amazon's product information. Marketplace offers Amazon's customers a wider range of goods, allowing them to select from used, collectible and new items.
Amazon's UK site kicked off a holiday promotion on Monday, launching its first-ever free-delivery offer for all orders over £39 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/free-delivery). The offer was timed to coincide with the launch of Amazon.co.uk's gift store (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gifts) and will run until 12th December 2002.
Amazon.co.jp opened in November 2000. Amazon.co.uk opened in October 1998. In addition to the U.S., UK, and Japanese sites, Amazon operates the French-language site Amazon.fr, the German-language site Amazon.de, and Amazon.ca in Canada.
