eBay and VeriSign announced a multi-year services and marketing alliance. eBay will deploy VeriSign authentication services, establish an eBay marketplace for Internet domain names and will enter into a multi-platform marketing and promotional campaign. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

eBay will use VeriSign's Authentication Service Bureau (ASB) to authenticate new eBay sellers during the registration process on its site. The VeriSign ASB is a managed service that utilizes VeriSign's digital trust services infrastructure to reliably identify parties in online transactions or communications.

In related news, eBay announced it would implement a "Seller Verify" program in its travel category. Square Trade, an online dispute-resolution service, will administer the program. All eBay Travel sellers are encouraged to participate, and members selling airline tickets, cruises, lodging, and vacation packages will be required to participate in the program by June 3, 2002. SquareTrade will verify sellers listing in these categories to ensure they have the necessary qualifications to sell travel. eBay said the program reflects the highly regulated nature of the travel industry at both the state and federal level. http://pages.ebay.com/community/news/travel_verification.html
