Problems with eBay Markdown Manager

Dear Ina,
eBay has not just rolled out the new Markdown Manager (MM) tool in Canada, they have done it in the US. Once again disrupting the way sellers do business in the important 4th quarter.

eBay has done away with the separate MM tool and is now forcing markdowns through the promotion manager through a sale event. At first glance, this does not seem to be too big of an issue, but alas it is. Why? Once again eBay did not even try to understand how sellers used the two different tools. The biggest use of the two has now been taken away.

The best use of these tools was to have sales running through Markdown Manager while using Promotions Manager to offer multi-quantity order deals. For example, I could run a 20% off sale with MM and still run a promotion for buyers to spend $75 and get free shipping. This type of activity greatly increased multi-item orders. The buyer would see the percentage off through MM and also see the Promotion manager banner.

Not anymore.

With Sale Event promotion discounts and other promotions through promotion manager, only one sale event or promotion is shown. So if you run a Sale Event of 20% Off, the buyer does not see they can also get Free Shipping by adding additional items to their cart. This is extremely short sighted by eBay.

Hey eBay, you want to increase multi-item orders? Fix this issue.

Additionally rules are not working in the new sale event. I have now run 4 different tiers of Mark Downs: 30% Off, 20% Off, 15% Off, & 10% Off. I specifically requested listings above $24.99 for my 30% and 20% off sale event. Alas, the tool included items under $24.99.

Another costly glitch that will be passed on to Sellers.

Thank you eBay for once again disrupting the 4th Quarter.
Stuart

Similar thing happened to me. I had a 5% off sale and then a buy 3 get an additional 10% off. I noticed they gave 15% off to all the buyers that bought a single item. Called and got the usual runaround and then was told it was a new program and they haven't completely tested it and worked out the kinks? You think?

Another thing you cannot do is if you want to exclude items from a certain category, but its also listed in a secondary category, you can't omit it from the sale. It has to be omitted from BOTH categories. I have over 2600 items listed in a special category and a month category. In the old version, I would omit items newly listed in the past 2 or 3 months. But the new version, it would pick up those items in the secondary category. I had to edit all of my listings and omit the secondary category.  Worst change ever!

i also tried to run a sale with a specific keyword, and in the results they had included items not related at all, so you have to go down the list carefully.

Typical ebay changing things and not enhancing the product but taking features away that many sellers utility.. They have these inexperienced or H1B visa programmers that don't even consider the use cases that REAL sellers would use.. I have 3 different things I was doing that I can no longer do. And can't add items to an existing sale anymore either... And implementing it during the 4th quarter shows that they are clueless FOOL! PS: What is so crazy is ebay expects sellers to chase their tails. End listings and relist, then you need to readd to promotions and sales, and update for quantities as it defaults back to the original, and on and on and on.. So f'ing STUPID, these people are ebay are the definition of MORONS!

With MM we could discount items 65%, 70% or 75% but with Promotions Manager 60% is the maximum discount. This time of year we usually mark everything down 75%. eBay needs to fix this ASAP.

This is a case of putting college levers in charge of sellers’ livelihood; they may know how to work their way round a block of code, and let’s face, this is no big deal anymore; school kids do it in the playground, what these block heads need to understand is very simple; It’s not about code editing, it is about getting the code to implement a particular function within a business context with view of improving the selling environment for people who have to generate the funds to keep paying eBay invoices. What we’re seeing here is systemic strip down of tools functionalities, either through ignorance or lack of care, frankly I don’t know which is worst. In a scientific environment, you simply don’t roll out changes without adequate testing
I have been trying for two hours to run a sale event, which used to take me 10 minutes to achieve, and I still can’t get it to work.
eBay need to employ code authors with business background, and put in place proper tier structured  supervision. This destructive (don’t give a ****) approach is very damaging
and those who answer the phone, they may as well start the conversation like this: I will spend 10 minutes verifying your identity because my supervisor is listening, but you must know that I am here only because I can make good coffee, so don’t ask me about anything else!

Don't brush off my profession like it's no big deal.  If programming were easy, the Indians wouldn't be so ridiculously bad at it.  The devolution of software, manifested as the stripping of functionality and worsening performance despite incredible advances in hardware, is due to their unwillingness to find and keep good programmers.  Expect more and more of this as American companies continue doing anything they can to avoid hiring Americans

Here's another thing that's suddenly broken besides the markdown tool - buyer questions about an item.  They're not showing up with other messages in my eBay.  They're only showing up in your e-mail...and since they bungled the text format years ago (abloobloobloo computers r teh hard!1one), the HTML format is just barely readable with a basic webmail client (after scrolling through pages of CSS declarations).  Seller hub removed the "listings with questions" link so now you have to scan your listings for one with a "respond to question" option.  When you click that, it doesn't even show the question you're responding to.  But you can be sure if you don't reply, or that stupid bot mistakes the "C-3PO" in a Star Wars listing for a phone number, they'll manage to slap you with a defect...

One problem I have noticed with the Markdown Manager and Promotions Manger tool in general is that using it breaks your shopping cart. A buyer can no longer request a total (the button is greyed out) for items in the cart if you have any of those items on promotion or on markdown. I can't see the logic in this and I can't imagine that it is intended functionality; more likely it is an unintended consequence of merging the PM and MDM tools. Hoping someone from eBay reads these threads.

Also curious that Seller Hub lets you sort your listings by almost any column except views.  Wouldn't want sellers to see which listings were being seen and tweak them to close the deal, would they?

Dear Ebay: I'm not quite sure your understand the holiday shopping season. I know that you are very rich and can buy those goodies anytime you want. BUT in the real world most of us still celebrate the season. Every year you guys screw things up at christmas.  Please remove your head from your arse and do this shit in July. Christmas only comes once a year and again as usual you have no clue. Thank god I am still in a brick and mortar and actually were are having a banner month and october was pretty good too - hire some sellers who have experience in retail and get rid of those tekie kids you think are so smart - btw - they use their parents money to buy stuff - quit pizing off the parents
