No eBay Support for USPS Padded Flat Rate Envelopes

By: Ina Steiner

Dear Ina,
Thanks for the article on the new Priority options available. One note. You state: "The service costs the same as the regular Flat Rate Priority Mail envelope."

However, the Padded Flat Rate Envelope (FRE) is not the same cost if you purchase your label through eBay or PayPal because they have not added them yet. The regular FRE costs $4.75 online but the Padded FRE costs $4.95 no matter if you purchase postage at the counter or purchase it online.

To date no good option for using PayPal or eBay for printing these labels exists. Some are putting a 20 cent stamp on them, some are taking a chance and mailing them with the regular FRE postage of $4.75 and some are printing the Small Flat Rate Box postage of $5.00.
Carol

Note from the Editor: Carol is correct that there's no commercial base (online-postage) discount for the padded FREs (see page 8 of this document). A postal service public relations representative said it was his understanding that eBay would be adding new USPS products and services this month for eBay sellers.

This is why I save
* time (time is money)
* gas (costs money)
* wear and tear on my car (yep that costs money too)
and actual cash money by having a $9.95 monthly subscription to endicia.

I get the commercial base discounts which I would not qualify for at the counter.

If I have questions I can talk to a human being located in the USA.

I have customized labels that do not promote someone else's business, they promote mine.

I can mail every type of mail offered by USPS from envelopes to regional flat rate and international packets using software that is updated prior to changes.

I have an easily accessible log of every piece mailed since 10/26/2005, which contains fields enabling me to tell at a glance not only if it is a business mailing but which business it bills to.

PO picks up my mail at no charge as long as I have one single Priority piece.

Why on earth would I want to go back to the old fashioned way?

I use Endicia that not only supports the padded mailer, but also the Regional A&B's which are actually pretty nice once you figure it out how they work.

The bubble mailers are great, and actually kind of dumb that they priced them so low. They're actually lower than the small flat rate BOXES that could easily fit into the padded mailer (not that I've ever done that).

About the only problem I have with them, is that they are restricting ordering them to 15 MAXIMUM. I almost use that many each day. I have to keep ordering them over and over again and even have friends order for me. Not sure why that is. Other Priority packages have 500 max limits!

I don't have a problem.

It says "Flat Rate Envelope" on it slap a FRE amount on it through Pay-poo & off it goes to another satisfied customer.

The problem is that as said above - only 15/order and delivery is much slower than the other shipping products.

As usual, PayPal & Ebay lag behind.  Stamps.com supports the padded mailer at $4.95.  I am wondering how long it will take PP and EB to get the new regional boxes that will actually save sellers money????

It is great that paid services offer the new padded envelope, but the price is still $4.95 (same for the legal flat rate option). Anyone can print labels through click-n-ship on the USPS Web site and get the electronic rate with no fee.

FYI – If you operate under a business name, quantities of up to 200 of the Padded Flat Rate Envelope (FRE) may be obtained by calling 1-800-610-8734; option 1 then 1 again.

I have no suympathy whatsoever for anyone who uses PayPal to print labels.

Why would anyone voluntariy
ly give these criminals more money and take money away from USPS when they don't have to?

Use Click n Ship, get discounted shipping, no fees, and deny ebay more revenue.

Ebay now supports the padded envelopes and the Legal Sized Envelopes. They are at the cheaper price on ebay too!

@ Carol

''I am wondering how long it will take PP and EB to get the new regional boxes that will actually save sellers money????''

How long did it take them to integrate the regular flat rate boxes?

BTW, the A box is great for me. I shipped one today to zone 4 and it was just $5.58. Of course I'm another Endica user.

What exactly do you mean by the ''cheaper price'' ?

Ming, I totally agree. I don't sell on ebay, but on my own site and I stick to Click N Ship & usually have the postal worker pick up the packages. So the mailing cost shows on the label with CNS - big deal. I just round it off to $5, if it's not a free shipping deal.

What has puzzled me since FR came out is why you need to weigh the package as it's totally irrelevant. One of the great mysteries of life, I guess.

BTW, I love the new padded envelopes - they hold a lot more than you would think.

You have to enter the weight because even flat rate cannot be more than 70 lbs.

Also, every time I use Paypal to print postage, I feel bad, but thats the  only way I can do it without having to retype the address.
