Technical Issue Strikes Amazon Sellers on Monday

Sellers in the UK (update: US, too) were unable to sell for at least 12 hours today. It began with a "Forbidden" notice when sellers tried to access their inventory.

One reader told EcommerceBytes he had a large batch of inventory to list but was unable to for at least 12 hours. Here's the message Amazon displayed:

"We are currently experiencing an issue which is impacting the appearance of your listings within the "Manage Your Inventory" section of Seller Central"

At 1:30 pm, an Amazon moderator posted on the boards that the tech team had fixed the problem: "Can you please check your accounts? The technical team have advised they identified the issue and it should be resolved now."

But while sellers were able to access Seller Central, some reported continuing problems managing their inventory. There were also reports that Vendor Central for first-party sellers was also impacted.

The problem on Amazon UK follows in the wake of a 2-day outage at Amazon's AbeBooks.com media marketplace, though the incidents appear to be unrelated, and AbeBooks.com is back online.

Update 9/5/17: Yesterday's problem also impacted sellers in other countries including the US. The nature of the message alarmed sellers who wondered if Amazon was punishing their specific account rather than it being a glitch that impacted numerous (or all) sellers.

Here's the message Amazon displayed that proved so worrisome:

"Forbidden Sorry, you do not have sufficient rights to view this page. Please contact your site admin if you think you have received this message in error."

Problems lingered yesterday even after the announced resolution, but appear to have cleared up overnight. Let us know if you're still experiencing problems.

Hell, I got the same forbidden notice on amazon.com about three hours ago. Haven't bothered to recheck. Tomorrow morning will do.
