eBay and Shipping Carriers Issue Hurricane Warnings

By: Ina Steiner

As residents of Texas and Louisiana brace for Hurricane Harvey, eBay and shipping carriers are issuing warnings about the inevitable disruptions to ecommerce and shipments.

eBay warned users to be patient if dealing with trading partners located in the region. "If you are involved in an eBay transaction with a buyer or seller in this region, please note that their ability to communicate or complete your transaction may be delayed due to these severe conditions. We encourage you to be patient in this matter, both throughout the transaction and when providing feedback after your item arrives."

eBay also promised to protect sellers from fallout from storm-related disruptions, though it didn't say it would protect sellers' feedback: "Rest assured that sellers need not worry about their eBay seller performance due to delays caused by the storm. We will continue to monitor these conditions and include any sellers who may be affected."

The USPS said it was monitoring conditions and listed offices where it had suspended retail and delivery operations and drop shipments.

FedEx and UPS also issued warnings about disrupted pickup and deliveries.

Good luck to readers in areas affected by the storm.

Update 8/27/17: You can find if your trading partner is affected by delivery days by visiting this page of the USPS website and clicking on Service disruption alerts, then clicking on either Texas or Louisiana.

"eBay also promised to protect sellers from fallout from storm-related disruptions"

I am assuming that, as it relates to the TSR metrics, this will not be automated, and that it will take countless calls to eBay CSRs (with hold times of 30 minutes or longer) to have these dings removed.

THESE types of threads ALWAYS make me laugh... if a buyer in a soon to be flooded area buys from me, I have no choice but TO ship... and suffer the consequences...
