To say Pattern wasn't ready for Prime Time when Etsy launched the store-hosting service last year
would be an understatement, but the company been adding features that make it more appealing, including some major enhancements announced today.
Basically Pattern was a mirror of a seller's Etsy Shop when it launched. The advantage was that sellers didn't have to do anything extra to manage sales - everything synced up (ensuring no overselling problems). But that also left little incentive to sellers to pay for a Pattern store.
Etsy announced the latest features in this post
on Tuesday afternoon. Sellers will be able to do more to customize their Pattern stores to help promote their brands - content that can be different from what's on their Etsy Shops.
Sellers can also now add a Contact Us page to their Pattern site: "Give your customers and members of the media more information about how they can reach you or where they can shop your products with a Contact Us page."
A new site map feature should help with SEO to attract traffic from search engines.
And an example of how sellers can do more customization of their Pattern shops (while not losing the advantage of the synchronization between their shops):
"Unique titles and descriptions for listings on Pattern: Give shoppers the information they need by customizing your listing titles and descriptions on Pattern. As always, your listings are synced from Etsy, but now you can edit the title and description for each of the listings in your Pattern shop. Changes made to the text on your Pattern listings won't affect what shoppers see in your Etsy shop."
