Another Hurricane Hits the US, This One Named Nate
By: Ina Steiner
Hurricane Nate is making landfall in Mississippi this evening with watches and warnings in effect between Louisiana and Florida. It is expected to pass over portions of Mississippi, Alabama, and Tennessee late tonight through Sunday night.
The US has been hit hard by hurricanes with Hurricane Harvey hitting Texas and Louisiana in August. In September, Hurricane Irma hit Florida and Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
Online sellers located in areas impacted by the severe weather events must deal with disruption and possible devastation to their homes and communities, as well as to their businesses. Hurricane Nate arrives just as the USPS, FedEx, and UPS are starting to make some small progress in Puerto Rico.
eBay generally applies some seller protections to those impacted by severe weather events (no defects for stockouts or unresolved cases with buyers, and protection for their late shipment rate metric).
eBay took the unusual step of offering further protections to sellers impacted by Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma, promising to waive Store fees for 3 months and provide advertising credits and shipping-supply coupons to business sellers impacted by the storms.
However, we've seen some reports from sellers unhappy with the way eBay implemented these protections, such as this report
, and how it communicated with sellers who had questions in the days following the announcement.
The USPS has already suspended operations
in some plants as a result of Hurricane Nate - let's hope Nate fizzles out quickly, and, as always, stay safe.
