AuctionBytes Poll: Meg Whitman versus Jerry Brown

By: Ina Steiner
Sponsored Link
Former eBay CEO Meg Whitman is running for governor of California. We wondered what online sellers thought of Ms. Whitman making the leap from business to politics, especially since she has said her experience running eBay qualifies her to run the state.

This poll is designed to offer a quick snapshot of what AuctionBytes readers are thinking. Please take a moment to let us know who you would vote for in the upcoming election: Meg Whitman or Jerry Brown - CLICK HERE or take the survey below. (survey may not show in frame below in Internet Explorer)

We'll report the results in a future issue of AuctionBytes.com.

Meg! Meg! MEG!! Get a hairstylist! Buy a wig! Something other than that ''I just got out of the shower and let my hair air-dry'' look.

Also known as the ''I forgot my brush can someone loan me a brush'' look.

Signed,
Catty Cathy & Snarky Susan

I know more than I need to know about Meg Whitman through my years on eBay. I admit I do not know as much about Jerry Brown. But if these are the only two choices on ANY ballot, I am 100% certain that I would vote for Brown.

Sometimes the unknown devil is the better choice and I know far too much about Meg.

Meg's run for the governor of California is only the first step in MEG FOR QUEEN!

If Ms. Whitman is so keen on using eBay.inc as job reference in trying to sway voters to her ticket, maybe one can ask her if she plans on ignoring state laws, if elected, just like eBay.inc ignores its own USER AGREEMENT when making policy changes/additions.

eBay.inc sees it as a one-way street and that they are allowed to break it as often as they want.

Will Ms. Whitman try pulling the same stunt while in office?

Only her hair dresser knows for sure.

Or is that bartender? I forget which applies in this case.

I know a lot of eBayers are quick to bash Meg Whitman -- but I don't understand how anyone who runs a small business could vote for Jerry Brown. Whatever boneheaded decisions Meg may have made at eBay pale to the crazy-factor when it comes to Brown. The man is a world-class nutjob, and his policies will ruin California once and for all.

Meg will win by 8 points, because a) there are enough Californians who remember how awful Brown was in his first run as governor and b) there is a Republican tidal wave coming that will carry Meg into office just by the nature of the voter turnout.

What's most interesting is that Whitman caught the presidential bug from working with Mitt Romney's team in 2008. She honestly views the CA governor's office as a stepping stone to Pennsylvania Avenue. So love Meg or hate Meg, you better get used to Meg - she may be our first female president.

With California already in dire straits, it is hard to conceive of Meg Whitman having the smarts necessary to turn things around.

Whitman oversaw the purchase of Skype, but the purchase did not include owning the rights to the underlying technology.

She moved eBay into China and then eBay ran with their tail between their legs.

Whitman makes poor personnel choices as evidenced by the mess her hand picked successor has made since assuming the lead role.

Throw in the pushing, shoving of an eBay employee, and you can be assured that her leadership skills leave much to be desired.

Also, consider the fact that until she decided to try and buy her way into the Governor's office, she neglected to exercise her right to vote in 28 elections.

If the voters of California are foolish enough to elect Whitman, the resulting debacle will be their own fault.

"running ebay"... more like "ruining ebay"

minnie mouse would've done a FAR better job. what about her remark "any monkey could drive this train"... yes, but only meg whitman could've succeeded in driving it into the ground. then to groom her water boy johnny to take the wheel, yeah way to go there, genius.

she's trying to buy her way in to the governorship, plain and simple. she has ZERO qualifications to run even someplace tiny like RI, much less CA!

this is why she's had to dump approximately $120 MILLION of her OWN money into her own campaign.
(think of all the hair plugs that could've purchased, hell she could've gotten an entire head transplant for that! preferably one with a functioning brain)

you can fool some of the people, some of the time, but we know the truth.

maybe she should go attack some more nurses or maybe the Hispanic community? oh wait, is it this week that she's all for Hispanics again? she flip flops so frequently, it's difficult to keep score.

when Jerry Brown was governor of California before, he created 1.9 million jobs (huge, especially when you compare the numbers to the population explosion of Calif over these last several decades that he's been gone) and even meg whitman came to California to get one of those Jerry Brown jobs.

meg whitman is a useless moron.

I'm afraid Meg may BUY the election.  Too often in this country the one who spends the most money in a campaign wins.

And where did all that money come from?  A significant chunk came from ebay buyers and sellers.  If I could live life over again I wouldn't spend one penny on ebay.

Meg Whitman has actually stated that her experience in working for ebay is her qualification to become a public servant? But she was sued by ebay shareholders over stock spinning - the shareholders of ebay brought suit against her in a court of law because of her behavior towards the company in her role as CEO.  What kind of qualification is this?  Her own company sued her!

For those of you too young to remember Jerry Brown's first term as governor (Governor Moonbeam) - it was a disaster.

California has unsustainable debt and will be forced into bankruptcy and default unless massive changes are made. I don't envy either candidate, as both will have to make decisions that will make comfortable Californians revolt. But who do you want - another lifelong office holder who is devoted to the bueracracy, or Meg who is a Harvard trained CEO superstar who has actually had to make a budget before? You business owners who would cut off your own nose by electing the Taxmaster Jerry Brown just to spite Meg for what she did to your online business are shortsighted. Meg's job wasn't to be good for your business, it was to be good for hers, and she was very good for eBay's bottom line. If she can do half with with California, it will be worth it. Jerry Brown is just more borrowing to pay off the unions.

This woman's forehead is HUGE! She reminds me of Little LuLu, you could use her head as a whiteboard for crying out loud! Should come in handy at those board meetings! If she does get in as governor and is not immediately recalled, Gavin Newsom will have to come kick her out in 2014.

More lies from the raise fees/taxes Meg Whitman campaign.

R>But
Governor Brown was much more of a fiscal conservative than Governor Reagan

Reagan had raised taxes several times and boosted spending by an average of 12.2 percent a year. In his first year as governor, by contrast, Brown increased spending by just 4.6 percent, less than the rate of inflation. He wasn’t always so restrained in the rest of his reign, but he was thriftier than his predecessor, accumulating one of the biggest budget surpluses in California history.

Brown also favored a balanced budget amendment and, though he opposed the tax-cutting Proposition 13 while it was on the ballot, he slashed spending merrily to meet its requirements once the initiative became law.
