eBay to Expand Seller Ad Program as Early as Monday

By: Ina Steiner

eBay Promoted Listing ads are becoming available for single-quantity listings as early as Monday. Up to this point, sellers could only use Promoted Listing ads to advertise a listing that offered multiple quantities.

Sellers are generally pleased that eBay removed product listing ads that competed with their listings by taking shoppers off of the eBay platform.

But whether marketplace sellers should have to pay for increased exposure on top of the fees they already pay to list their items has always been hotly debated among eBay sellers. Some argue that if eBay served up listings according to relevance instead of through Cassini's "Best Match" sort, there wouldn't be a need for sellers to pay extra for exposure in search results. On the other hand, some sellers are happy to pay extra for the opportunity to generate additional sales.

Only Top Rated Sellers and eBay Stores subscribers can participate in the program, and Top Rated Sellers and Anchor Store subscribers receive Promoted Listings credits. You can learn more about the program on this page.

Will you be tempted to test the effectiveness of Promoted Listings ads on your single-quantity listings? Do you have a reason for not trying it out?

UPDATE 8/14/17: eBay did announce the expansion of Promoted Listings today.

What if everybody's listings are paid eligibile for promotion?

Are they then to be sorted by color, or what?

My thoughts as a hobby seller. So far I have seen Promoted Listing used on very competitive commodity items I buy on Ebay (shipping supplies). I have not purchased any items from  Promoted Listings yet. In this category first priority is price then quality; after this feedback. I have found some Promoted Listings put in my searches that have NO correlation to my search .
Even with the $30 ''credit'' I will not bother with it on my OOAK items. The credit is refunded at a later date; why not just refund when item is sold or on that invoice? How much time will sellers spend  on the phone trying to get the correct credits? Like ''Snapped'' has said if many use it what is the advantage? Just like other Ebay credits if too successful for the seller they will be reduced or canceled.

sellers already pay to have there listings hidden.

but, if you want to pay more, promote your listings and maybe they will not be hidden.

I guess I was opted into this early. I already tried on several items. There was a slight increase in views, but no increase in sales. I think it's only worth it for a high dollar item.

1. No.

2. Not worth the money. Their "take" aka theft FVF could be as high as 30%!

They're shutting down the wrong company.  Instead of Half.com which use to be 80% of my total Amazon sales and which today would have been a billion dollar company on its own merit, Ebay should be shut down and not this once great company.  They are a cancer to any one they touch from Craigslist to Half and to every seller that has attempted to grow in this cesspool called Ebay.  Not to mention its the most un-American company ever put on earth.  Cheap scammers, money launderers, and home to all the bootleggers in the world...Ebay...

Anytime eBay implement another scheme to put more money into their pocket, simply don't participate. It will go away.

The problem with eBay's schemes is that they only benefit eBay.  If promoted listings worked folks on the blogs and the discussion boards would be singing their praises.
