Upcoming Changes to Feedback on eBay

By: David Steiner
Sponsored Link

Feedback on eBay certainly has taken a few left turns since Pierre's initial concept that allowed trading partners to rate each other. In probably the most dramatic deviation, Sellers will no longer be allowed to leave Negative or Neutral feedback for Buyers. There are some other changes, which can be found here: http://pages.ebay.com/services/forum/new.html but this is the most interesting paragraph:

What changes are being made to the eBay Feedback system?

There are five key elements to the new Feedback system being introduced in the first half of 2008:

   1. Beginning in February, buyers and sellers will be able to earn up to one Feedback per week from the same trading partner. Today, members may only affect each other's Feedback scores one time, regardless of the number of transactions between the parties. This change will both encourage repeat transactions and reward good service.
   2. Sellers will no longer be able to leave negative or neutral Feedback for buyers. This change will occur in May, 2008.
   3. Removal of negative and neutral Feedback left by members who are suspended or who fail to respond to the Unpaid Item Process (UPI).
   4. Positive Feedback percentage will be based on the past 12 months of Feedback, rather than lifetime, since it is most indicative of the seller's recent performance.
   5. Restrictions on when Feedback can be left:
          * Buyers must wait three days before leaving negative or neutral Feedback
          * Instead of 90 days, members will be able to leave Feedback for 60 days

We'll be speaking with John Donohoe later today, so if you have any specific questions, post them here before noon, and we'll try to incorporate the best ones in our interview.

Call 1-877-222-0856 and leave a 60 second message about what you think of these changes.

Sorry Angela you are right. I was a little overboard and should have stated that some customers can be so dumb.

I buy on eBay too, so I kind of offended myself. LOL.

I agree Another wronged seller. I can only do so much. If you look up through the posts I have provided a template for emailing the major news organizations. It has links to this forum, etc. All people need to do is copy and paste into their email. We need to get more email addresses  of the news organizations. Another option is most of the newsorganizations have a contact form and you could just copy and paste into their contact form.

please people go to ola.com or ioffer.com or ecrater.com or ebid.net and start listing.

email all of your existing customers and tell them where to find you and a whole lot of other sellers who are leaving eBay. Tell them the PETA Story. Get the word out about the boycott. I know it's a little extra work but it's for all our benefits.

Please follow through on this. eBay has provided us with the motivation to finally band together and change this monopoly.

I can't cut ebay off completely right now, but would love to find other venues for some of my stuff.

Aside from Amazon, what else is there?

Can we compile a list of alternatives?

Okay. just recapping the plan. If there is anything I missed please post it.

1. WE ALL BOYCOTT EBAY ON FEB 18-25.

That means NO listing of any items. NO store items. NO buying anything that is listed.

2. WE SELL OUR EBAY STOCK.

3. WE EMAIL FOX NEWS at  ureport@foxnews.com
AND NBC NEWS at  Nightly@NBC.com informing them of the impending boycott and the growing dissent amongst ebay sellers

We need a uniform plan to refer back to so lets get this solidified and the keep reposting it so that it will be visible to all newcomers.

These changes don't make sense. Don't a lot of people come to ebay because it has things they could never find anywhere else? I mean, I know there are a lot of retail sellers on ebay now but that stuff could be bought anyplace. The main thing that has always made ebay unique was the unusual hodge-podge of stuff you could find there that you could never locate elsewhere. They used to run commercials emphasizing just that: they would show someone looking for some old arcane object and then they would say ''Find it on eBay''. Won't they be giving up the one thing that makes them special... that makes people go to them in the first place?

Ridiculous...
I will not be listing on ebay or buying anymore...
its a shame that ''ebay'' can't be happy with just making a million or two...instead they have to #$%@& the seller and buyer.

In fact why not just email everyone in your address list. Let's get this thing viral!

post on Youtube and every message board you can think of. It worked for Cloverfield, let's make it work for something really important.

C'mon people, we can make a difference!

You are so right ebay seller no more.

What eBay has really missed the point on is that the vast majority of sellers on eBay are also BUYERS at the same time!

So you not only have ticked us sellers off you have also ticked off the very buyers you claim you are helping!

I know everyone is busy but I sincerely encourage everyone to stay riled up about this. Ebay knew we would flare up about this upon receiving the news but they expect us to calm down after awhile and just accept it. If we do that, they win.

We have to stand strong on this. Keep checking back to this blog. Keep discussing it with your seller friends. Make sure other sellers know what is happening, and inform them about the upcoming Boycott.

Just don't slip into complacency about this. That's what ebay is counting on.

I do not understand why ebay does not value their sellers. If it were not for us, there would be no ebay. Time and again they lay heavy fees on us, treat us rudely when there is a problem and now the buyers can unjustly leave us a negative. My friend who also sells, was given a neg. because the buyer misunderstood her auction. My friend shipped the item for free and gave extra of the item on her own. Never a thank you, or even a mention in the feedback. Just a negative because something small was chipped on one of the items and it WAS MENTIONED in the description. Why not protect your sellers for once? If someone opened a site similiar to ebay, we all would flood there. We are ebay's life blood and they continually bleed us dry.

ming is correct-i just got off the phone with a paypal rep (and he was completely unaware of the changes ebay is emplementing)after being royally screwed over by mom23stinkers-she comitted blackmail as well as fraud and paypal helped her do it. i followed every one of their so called 'seller suggestions' for their so called 'seller protection' and got totally f*cked over for doing EXACTLY what i was supposed to do-THAT is the type of buyer we're addressing here: the one who had the chance for insurance but declined only to file an iten not as described claim-emailed me 3 days after she recieved the item saying it was damaged and she wanted to keep the item and get a partial refund and if i didn't comply she was filing w/paypal-i told her i wasn't participating in any illegal activity(because i know the item wasn't damaged)so she files w/paypal...and wins
we all know paypal is owned by ebay but to have followed all 'the rules' and still get screwed, well that tells you exactly what ebay thinks of their sellers-oh and by the way i have 100% feedback but after the negative i'm leaving this skank, i'll lose that but you can bet i'll wear that negative as proudly as a badge of honor and i'm letting everyone know who the bad buyers are-screw ebay-i'm stating them by name in my auctions
boycott-i'm in(OH YEAH!)
staying w/ebay...
well, ''fu ebay''
i'm over it, i just want to cause as much damage to those greedy bastards as possible
one last thing, i want to thank all the honest, decent customers i've had
i really appreciate each and everyone of you as all we sellers do but now w/the feedback change, bad apples like mom23stinkers will pull this type of fraud again and again with absolute impunity and no negs too...ebay really is just to much bullshit anymore. the stress and worries about being sniped and oh, the deadbeats, gotta mention those-ebay is now a eutopian paradise for all those that the feedback rating was once supposed to protect the honest ones from and now will be our demise-what a farce...
